In its simplest form, counselling is ‘talk therapy’. It is an opportunity for you to discuss your personal issues in a safe and confidential environment with a trained accredited professional without being judged. Counselling helps you develop a new perspective and understanding of yourself, which enables you to lead a more positive and satisfying life. You will be encouraged to express your emotions, supported as your self-awareness increases, and develop coping strategies that will help you when future challenges emerge.
You may bring any matters you wish to talk about to counselling and you will not be pushed to talk about anything that you are not ready to discuss. If your issue is beyond the scope of my knowledge and expertise, I may recommend a referral to another service provider or agency who can better meet your needs.
All counselling sessions are confidential. However, confidentiality may be broken when there is a risk of harm or threat to life (yours or another’s), when there is harm or the threat of harm to a minor, or if your records are subpoenaed by a court of law in Australia.
Most people feel nervous about seeking counselling. This is entirely understandable when you are meeting a stranger and not sure what to expect. At Clearview Pathway you will quickly be put at ease: even if your problem seems trivial to you, I know that it matters. You will not be judged but rather, supported and valued. I focus on building a trusting, caring relationship in an environment where you feel safe and free to share your story and express emotions.
How often you attend is completely up to you. You may like to have weekly, fortnightly or monthly sessions. The number of sessions that each person will require depends on their circumstances and needs. Generally, sessions end when you feel you have accomplished your goals. However, I continually monitor and review the counselling process, allowing for the most appropriate service.
